27 March 2015 – “BCHF Historical Writing Shortlist Announced”
The judging committee of the British Columbia Historical Federation has determined that the book “The History of Leechtown – Part 1” will appear among the finalists for the Historical Writing Awards 2015. The winners of the various awards will be announced in mid-April.

On 18 July 2014 it was exactly 150 years ago that the Leech River was named and payable gold was discovered by members of the Vancouver Island Exploring Expedition (VIEE), which led to a gold rush and the establishment of Leechtown.
On 19 July 2014 a new monument at Leechtown containing a memorial plaque was unveiled by Bruce Chaytor of the Vancouver Island Placer Miners Association and the Honourable Judith Guichon Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
